As 2017 draws to a close we take a look back on some of the main highlights.
It has been a successful time for A&Y these past 12 months, with improvements on current models, increases in our product portfolio and sales to all manner of end customers.
We saw the first Yanmar ViO12's arrive with us before their launch at the Executive Hire Show. These zero tail swing excavators have an operating weight of 1235 kg and an expandable working width ranging between 830 - 1000 mm. A main feature of these excavators is the use of servo controls and has led to customers telling us they treat the machine more like a 1.5 tonne machine rather than a micro.
The first time we showed the lightweight ATR30 rammer was in February. This compactor weighs just 29kg and is incredibly mobile and manoeuvrable by one man. Powered by a Honda GX35 engine it has become a popular tool for firms carrying out work on fibre optic cabling jobs and patchwork.
We took delivery of the first batch of ASC70 single drum rollers with the very latest in engine technology, which meets US Tier 4 final and EU Stage IIIB emissions standards. All this without the need for AdBlue. The ASC70 is a 7.2 tonne roller powered by a Tier 4f Deutz engine. During a visit from a Deutz engine expert he commented on what a great fit this engine was to the machine. He was impressed with it's output and the way it complemented the needs of the roller "you wont have an issues with these machines" he added.
We signed a new deal with Ardent Hire Solutions, one of the largest providers of self-drive plant in the UK, to supply over 100 new Ammann rollers in a deal worth upwards of £4 million.
These machines will update and compliment an existing fleet of Ammann rollers located throughout Ardent’s 14 national depots. This particular deal is made up with a range of compaction machines, including trench rollers, light tandem rollers and single drum self-propelled rollers.
In time for the Plantworx show we took delivery of a Cormidi CMF tracked carrier. These machines stand for Cormidi Multi Function, it is effectively one machine, with over 100 different configurations through the use of changeable attachments. Examples of regularly used attachments on these machines include: 3 side tip, pallet carrier, concrete mixer, utility grapple and sweeper. During the show we had a lot of interest in this model and we think during 2018 more and more will be sold.
We brought you the exciting news that we had upgraded our product portfolio by becoming the importer for Dieci Construction machines. These products, predominantly telescopic and “roto” telehandlers, but also including truck mixers and dumpers, have complemented our existing ranges.
Export Manager for Dieci, Patrizia Gambarelli commented on the deal “A&Y are the ideal fit to push our construction products in the UK. They are a large, professional company with many years’ experience of the market. Having visited the premises and met the staff we are sure this is going to be a very productive partnership.”
A&Y Equipment LTD have supplied FM Conway, a business renowned for delivering infrastructure services to support, develop and maintain the UK’s vital transport networks, built environment and open spaces, another batch of Yanmar excavators this month.
This most recent deal is made up of 6 tonne ViO57’s, 5 tonne ViO50’s, 2.5 tonne SV26’s and 1.5 tonne SV16’s. This is in addition to a similar set of machinery supplied in late 2016, on that occasion 8 tonne ViO80’s were also included.
These machines stand out on arrival from the Yanmar factory as they are specifically painted in the special Conway ‘Brunswick Green’ livery. Upon arrival at A&Y the excavators then get fitted with; keypad immobilisers, recordable camera technology, check valve kits, overload warning systems, green seatbelt beacons, hi-vis chevrons, buckets, manual hitches on the SV16 and 26 and hydraulic hitches on 5 tonne and above, before being delivered.
A&Y’s Area Sales Manager, Peter Ayres said “it’s fantastic to be associated with innovative and ever growing companies like FM Conway. This latest order shows their loyalty to both the Yanmar and A&Y brands.”
A&Y also provide full after sales support on these machines, including parts and servicing straight from their Midlands base.
We were delighted to learn last week that A&Y Equipment Ltd have been listed as one of the top 50 fastest growing companies in Coventry & Warwickshire.
The BDO growth barometer recognises the 50 fastest growing companies in the region and placed us at 29th, surrounded by nationally known companies such as Aldi, The Air Ambulance and Wasps RFC, with an average annual growth of 20%.
This is great reward for all the hard work from everyone at A&Y. With exciting deals for both Yanmar and Ammann machinery going through already in 2017 plus brand new machine models due in the coming weeks we look forward to continuing the growth and working our way up the table!

This week we have been one of the 183 exhibitors at the 10th annual Executive Hire Show, once again held at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
The organisers are reporting that figures look like confirming 2016's show to be the most visited and we'd certainly second that at A&Y.
Our centrally located stand, showcasing some of the most popular Ammann, Yanmar and Cormidi products was a busy place.
Many of our dealers joined the A&Y team on the stand, spending time talking to current and prospective customers about the many benefits our machines offer the users and hirers.
The SV26 with Ammann 2030 plate compactor gained a lot of interest, with many comments about the spacious cab design, long arm as standard and ease of maintenance access. In fact during the show sales of Ammann forward moving plates, 1575 trench rollers were made as well as a Yanmar ViO17, SV08 and both Cormidi C50 and C60 tracked dumpers.
All in all a very successful week and we look forward to exhibiting again next year.
As the year draws to it's end, we take the opportunity to look back over what has been a busy 12 Months for A&Y Equipment.
With much more coming in 2016 take sure you are following us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with all the news, as well of course the website that is constantly evolving.
Happy New Year from everyone at A&Y!
The year began with news of a big change from Yanmar. The excavators would be having a colour change.
The cabs from green to black as well as the rams from yellow to black.
This change would not happen straight away but be gradually rolled out during the course of the year, aiming to be completely changed to the new design by December.
In February we made the annual trip to Coventry's Ricoh Arena for the Executive Hire Show. This year visitors were able to see two new 1.5 tonne mini excavators, the SV16 and SV18.
Improvements included two speed travel, a flow sharing hydraulic system, proportional control on the hammer circuit, more power with lower fuel consumption plus Yanmar's three year warranty.
A variety of other equipment from our ranges was also on display, making our stand a popular place for visitors.
A kit is available now that increases the width of Rammax 1575 Trench Rollers from
640 mm to 850 mm.
The extensions enable the same roller to fit into tight spaces yet also be adjusted to maximise productivity when such opportunities arise.
The articulated oscillating rollers will continue to be offered at widths of 640 mm and 850 mm. As of March 2015 the 640 mm version was able to extended to 850 mm with the use of this kit.
The production gained by utilising the extendable drum kit is significant. The extensions increase the roller width by nearly 33 percent.
April 17th saw the 60 000th Yanmar machine to come of the production line at the factory in Saint Dizier, France.
The machine in question was an SV18, part of the new SV series developed in 2014: short tail excavators in the weight category from 1,5 to 2 tonnes.
Ammann has earned three coveted Red Dot Awards for outstanding product design. The awards are considered Europe’s highest design honours.
Ammann won Red Dot Awards for the Ammann APH 110-95, a three-shaft hydrostatic vibratory plate compactor; the Ammann Rammax 1575 Trench Roller; and the Ammann ARX 90 Articulated Tandem Roller.
An international jury of 38 design professionals from 25 countries evaluated the products and chose winners from among nearly 5,000 entries. The jury only awards the sought-after seal of quality to products that set themselves apart significantly through exceptional design.
There was plenty of interest on the impressive A&Y stand at June's Plantworx show. Despite the weathers best efforts on day 1, thousands of people passed through the gates at Bruntingthorpe Proving ground and many took in the large variety of equipment on show from A&Y. Including: Cormidi tracked carriers, Ammann Compaction plates, tandem rollers, single drum rollers, Zero tail swing excavators, semi zero swing excavators and a Prinoth Panther tracked carrier.
Oh and who could forget YB25, the 40 year old excavator taking centre stage!
You can now increase dig depth by 9% with a ViO80 and SV100 as a Long arm option is now available.
This will give these machines yet more versatility as Dig reach, dig depth and maximum unloading height all increase with the long arm.
The B7 Sigma excavator with its triple articulated boom and a reach of 8250mm, whilst having complete rotation within the crawler width was nominated for an Innovation Award at the Demolition Expo in Reading.
The Sigma gained a lot of attention within the demolition industry and stood out as a highly viable Midi excavator with plenty of versatility.
2015 saw Ammann release an app for Apple and Android users.
This app is primarily dedicated as an online resource for service technicians, who are occupied with the maintenance of machinery developed and distributed by Ammann Group, but also is a great tool to have for anyone running or interested in Ammann Machinery.
The app provides access to manuals, videos and further media for the whole range of Ammann machinery and equipment.
Additionally, the app provides an internal scanner to read and process QR codes.
Mawsley Machinery, long term Yanmar dealers for us took on the full Ammann Compaction range in October.
Dealers for; Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Mawsley pride themselves on having a valuable knowledge database and being trusted dealers of both new and used plant and construction equipment in the UK and worldwide.
In November we fitted a grapple to a ViO57 to be used for forestry work. The operator from HMC Forestry even proclaimed it was the ''best thing since sliced bread''
The ViO57 weighs 5325kg and is true zero tail swing (neither the counterweight nor front part of the upper frame exceed the crawler width), which offers extraordinary tight turning and the confidence to work effectively in narrow spaces.
Stability and exceptional lifting capacties are essential for this machine as it will often be working with the arm fully extended. Thanks to the combination of a wide counterweight,
asymmetric crawlers (system patented by Yanmar VICTAS®), and excellent weight
distribution, provide the ViO57U with just that.
Most recently the all terrain C50 tracked carrier has had both an internal and external upgrade.
In addition to new paint design and decals it now comes complete with the latest Tier 4i engine
The C50R-3C is ideal for use on: slopes, sand and soft and swampy areas.
The Cormidi C60 is a high performance and highly reliable tracked carrier.
Measuring just 695mm wide it passes through standard doors, additionally with the longest undercarriage (1320mm) and highest discharge height (1675mm at pivot) in it's class its not hard to see why this machine proves incredibly popular.
The C60, with a Yanmar LA electric start engine (7.5hp) and top travelling speed of 2.3mph moves over uneven or wet ground even when fully loaded.
This is aided by the innovative 'rocking rollers', where the middle two rollers along the bottom oscillate allowing the tracks to ride over stones or brick whilst still keeping the load stable and giving the operator a safe ride.
Pete Barfield, a sales manager at A&Y recently towed a Cormidi C60 to a customer, he commented on the ease of doing this due to the four well placed tie down points. The weight of the Cormidi (600kg) meant that fuel consumption wasn't drastically affected either.
