One of the most popular excavators in our Yanmar construction range is the SV26.
This reduced tail swing mini excavator is currently being run by many operators throughout the UK and Ireland, from national hire companies to single person operators and everything in between.
One strength lies in the optimal combination of performances; low fuel consumption, minimum maintenance and exclusive standard features such as a knob for proportional control of auxiliary hydraulic circuits, allowing for a precise and smooth use of accessories.
A key area in any excavator is the cab, the more comfortable an operator is the more productive they will be.
Like all Yanmar excavators the cab on the SV26 is fully ISO conforming, meeting the guidelines for falling object, roll over and tip over protection.
The new generation of SV26 has a cab mounted on anti-vibration bushings. This is done to reduce the vibrations felt by the user which in turn will increase comfort, particularly when working long periods with a hydraulic hammer for example.
Other changes made to improve user experience is the travel pedals fold away to create more floor space, this is in addition to the PTO and swing controls being moved to the joysticks, as well as second speed being controlled via a button on top of the blade lever.
Inside the cab you will find a digital dashboard screen. This digital interface informs the operator in real time the status of the machine. Allowing you to manage working time, daily maintenance operations and to programme interventions. It provides useful information on the operation of the machine, such as engine oil and coolant temperatures, as well as current fuel levels.
With further features such as; full cylinder protection, a transport weight of 2600kg (rubber tracks), LED integrated boom light, Yanmar TNV engine and an incredibly low ground pressure of just 0.33kg//cm². Its not hard to see why this consistently proves to be a popular excavator.

This week we have sold a number of ASC 110, single drum rollers. These machines thrive on medium to large jobsites such as municipal roads and residential developments, all the while providing industry-leading compaction outputs.
With a maximum operating weight of over 15 tonne, these rollers are powered by reliable Cummins engines, fitted with auto idle to help reduce emissions. The engines give a strong power output, allowing the machines to climb a grade of 45% as well as keeping compaction forces as high as they are, 15% higher than the nearest competing roller. This is thanks to the tried and tested Ammann Vibratory system offering industry leading outputs. Even the frame and drum are optimally balanced to ensure compaction is even and deeper.
Compaction is essential on any worksite in the construction sector. There are numerous reasons we compact, including; to increase the load bearing capacity, make the surface more resistant to damages and to ultimately make the surface stable.
Compaction quality as well as output is high on the ASC110 also. Two different vibration frequencies and amplitudes are reached by these rollers. A simple system for adjusting amplitude/frequency by selection of rotation direction of vibratory shaft is situated on the dashboard control panel. Thus giving greater control and quality of compaction.

Yanmar are the inventor's of the zero tail swing machine.
The ViO range of zero tail swing excavator's began back in 1995 when they brought the ViO50 to the market. The current generation of zero tail swing excavators is Yanmar's 5th, showing their knowledge and expertise in this area and the ability to improve each time.
The term 'zero tail swing' itself simply means the excavators housing doesn't exceed the track width as it rotates.

At A&Y we offer a number of zero tail swing excavators, the Yanmar ViO range, from the smallest ViO10 (1220kg) right through to the ViO80 (8065kg).

Yanmar have launched the ViO57-6, an upgrade of the popular ViO57 series.
This zero tail swing excavator in the 6 tonne weight class has seen many upgrades which will; improve performance, increase user comfort, reduce service times and ultimately lower overall cost of ownership.
The standard long arm boom still offers a dig depth of over 4 metres and 4420 mm dumping height. However the design has been re-modelled. The new design with a box structure has not only reduced the weight of the structure by 40kg but also increased lifting capacities by 10%. This design is more robust and durable too, decreasing likelihood of machine damages and downtime.
All cylinder tubes and rods still have the highest levels of protection thanks to a spring type steel plate covering them.
The ViO57-6 benefits from an improved powerline: the combination of the new more powerful Yanmar engine and hydraulic pump, gives 14% more power and a new control valve improve the cycle-times by more than 10 %.
The 48.4 HP TNV engine is equipped with direct injection to create clean burning power. It has fully-electronic control to provide the ViO57-6 with total intelligent engine control. It is equipped with a turbo charger improving power, fuel efficiency and torque. This choice allows to reduce the rpm by 200 rpm and improves drastically the noise level for the operator and the bystanders.
The ViO57-6 is also equipped in standard with an Eco mode which effectively controls the motor speed, reducing it by 300 RPM, thus allowing a very low fuel consumption. The Auto-Idling device, also as standard, enables the engine to drop back to idle if the operator doesn’t touch the operating levers for 4 seconds. Environmental performance (noise and emissions) and fuel consumption are even more improved.
Further standard equipment in the ViO57-6 includes two auxiliary hydraulic circuits. Both are operated via a proportional control located on the joystick which adapt the flow and the direction of the oil flow. Additionally each circuit has an easy-to-operate potentiometer which adjusts the oil flow to the optimal requirement for each and every attachment.
Finally the ViO57-6 design provides an ergonomic environment, excellent visibility and exceptional safety. The improved shape of the cabin provides the operator with an optimal 360° visibility in order to improve the safety on the jobsite and to make work more efficient. The door is now a single piece rather than the older split opening design, making damages less likely. Yanmar have installed an air suspension seat that has numerous possibilities of adjustment to give the optimal seating position. The instrumentation panel has been redesigned as well as the armrests, which further enhance the operator’s comfort.
Ammann engineers have developed a handle that reduces hand arm vibrations to unprecedented levels.
Ammann’s line of hydrostatic plate compactors now features a handle with hand-arm vibration (HAV) levels below 2.5 m/sec2, making Ammann one of the first manufacturers to hit this milestone. The handle has been extensively tested in the field and is now standard equipment on all Ammann APH Vibratory Plates.
Felix Greive, Commercial Manager for Ammann Light Compaction Equipment said “The reduction is a significant advantage for our customers,”
The reduced HAV levels enable an operator to use the plates for hours with a very low risk from vibration. In fact, countries with the strictest restrictions do not require that operators wear gloves during an 8-hour shift when the HAV level falls below 2.5 m/sec2.
The vibration improvement results from the development of the patented “Z” buffer suspension of the handle, so named because the profile of the buffers has a Z shape.
The handle features the orbital steering known on Ammann plates for many years, enabling precise operation and guidance. “It makes the machine extremely responsive and easy to use for operators of all experience levels,” Greive said.
Other key features of the APH Series include ACE technology for intelligent compaction and the triple-shaft exciter system, which keeps plate movement consistent and enables smooth travel – even through heavy, cohesive soils.
The triple shaft also helps effortlessly overcome steep grades. APH machines even can climb while backfilling saturated areas – work that can leave competitive products at a standstill.
Recently we told you how a local cricket club had used a Yanmar ViO17 whilst constructing the extension to their clubhouse.
This week another local cricket club, Moreton in Marsh CC has had a Yanmar ViO25 working as they install new practice net facilities.
The club also host junior sides from North Cotswolds Young Cricketers who recently have produced many talented players, these new practice facilities will drastically improve the club and help coaches and players alike to develop.
The 2.7 tonne ViO25 is being used by experts in the construction of artificial pitches, S&C Slatter. They first used the excavator to clear the area, before digging out the footings and inserting the kerbstone edging along with the base poles for the frames structure.
This machine has a number of advantages making it a great fit for jobs of this nature. Being true zero tail swing it can work right up against walls and obstacles with minimal movements and rotations. The patented Yanmar VICTAS technology also helps the construction of sports pitches and facilities like these. This technology not only increases the front and side lifting capacities of the machine but also gives better stability, noise and vibration-free travel and creates less ground damage. The ground damage point is particularly prevalent in this case.
It is powered by a reliable Yanmar engine and allows for the use of attachments such as hammers and augers through a separate 3rd circuit pedal, making it possible to combine various working movements and travelling.

Isolated from Vibration
The whole operators platform is isolated from vibration. The rollers have the lowest whole body, and hand arm vibration (HAV) figures for rollers this size.
The seat, steering, travel lever and even the floor are vibration isolated.
Clear, User Friendly Dashboard
A simple and clear dashboard allows for easy operation of the machines functions.
Alongside the built in diesel fuel gauge, hour and voltage meter, are; the vibration frequency controls, working light controls and sprinkler system operation. A horn, hazard lights and emergency stop button increase roller safety.
Safe and Easy Maintenance
The large opening hood gives unparalleled maintenance access to the rollers.
This is key from a safety point of view as all maintenance and service can be carried out on the safe side of the roller, for example away from traffic lanes if working on a road job.
Complete Lever Controls
The drive lever, situated to the right hand side not only controls the motion of control but also the vibration and sprinkler switch.
The drive lever is soft start and stop, especially important on asphalt jobs where no marks will be created.
Reliable Yanmar Engine

Yanmar dealers in Germany have supplied a Sigma machine which has made light work of a tough job, reconstructing a driveway, located on a steep slope.
With it's multiple attachment options, the excavator can be used for all manner of operations. Equipped with a hydraulic breaker it first broke the old driveway's concrete layer with a thickness of 40 cm. Thanks to the VICTAs system and centrally mounted boom the Sigma managed to keep a stable position despite the steepness of the job and tightness of some of the areas.
The driveway was surrounded by a garage, road and a wall so it was imperative that the machine could work and rotate fully within it's tracks - like a mini excavator. At the same time, it is able to precisely place heavy loads – just like a large excavator. Furthermore, it acts with high flexibility and accuracy thanks to its three piece boom.
After the concrete and the soil had been loaded onto the truck, the Yanmar excavator filled the driveway with gravel and lifted the concrete supporting angles putting them into their right position. Finally, the machine filled the mineral mixture into the ground and distributed it.
Owner and operator of this Sigma excavator said of the machine "We really like utilising the B7 Sigma for the garden and landscaping sector because of its flexibility. It is deployed in public green spaces as well as in private gardens”
