The Hillhead show is open and we have had a successful first day with plenty of interest in our machines.
We do also have two further machines present at the show on other stands. The SV100 2 piece boom can be found on the Steelwrist stand and the new model of Ammann ARX90 is stationed with Pavemac, who specialise in Ammann pavers.
The ARX90 is a tandem drum roller, weighing just over 9 ton, with strong vibration outputs from an independent vibratory pump situated in each drum. The roller also features a heavy-duty, two-stage vibrator and easy adjustment of amplitude and frequency.
Ammann have also done work on re designing the cab, making it a more comfortable operating station, which should in turn aid productivity.
The following gives an overview of the main key features of this large tandem roller:
If you are visiting the show this week then make sure you take a look at Stand N17 too see what we have on offer.
Our machines are prepped and in place at Hillhead quarry in Buxton for the Hillhead 2016 show.
Here's a brief overview of what will be on the A&Y Stand during the show:
We also have a selection of Ammann compaction plates and excavator attachments on the stand so make sure you come by and take a look if visiting the show, stand N17.
On June 20, Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd concluded a final agreement with Terex Corporation to acquire Terex Corporation's German compact construction equipment business for approximately US $60 million.
Terex carries out the production and sale of wheel loaders, midi/mini excavators, wheel excavators, and other products in Europe through this business. Included in the acquisition is the manufacturing facility located in Crailsheim, Germany and the parts distribution center located in Rothenberg, Germany.
This acquisition will allow Yanmar to further develop their business in the small to medium sized construction machinery market in Europe by collectively using the sales and service networks, whilst also utisiling the top class production and product development know how of both companies.
The acquisition is expected to be completed during Autumn of 2016 after the approval of Terex's shareholders, regulating authorities and the completion of all other required procedures.
Takehito Yamaoka, President, Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd. said "We are very happy to have concluded an agreement for the acquisition of Terex Corporation's small and medium sized construction machinery business, which possesses a strong Europe-based sales network and excellent products, including the distinguished German Schaeff series, in a move aimed at expanding the Yanmar Group's small to medium sized construction machinery business. I believe this tie-up will promote not only short term, but
also the long term growth of the Yanmar's construction machinery business, by expanding the Yanmar Group's portfolio and supplementing the sales network of our French subsidiary."
Our initial feelings towards this move is it's very positive. Yanmar are traditionally very strong in the zero tail swing market, will now be complimented by the demand for more conventional mini excavators. Also with a range of wheeled loaders as well as wheeled excavators being added to the overall product portfolio, this further expands Yanmar presence in the market quicker than through organic growth.
This week at A&Y we have been hosting Yanmar service training for a number of our dealers from the UK. The course, ran by Yanmar's Area After Sales manager for the UK and Ireland, Mr Jeroen Jacobs lasted for two days and combined both theory and practical elements.
After a brief introduction into Yanmar, the range of machines was outlined including the layouts of the machines and the basic components you will find on the excavators.
Then followed more specifics on unique features to Yanmar construction machines, VIPPS and VICTAS being prime examples. On the topic of VIPPS and flow sharing the trainees went to learn about the hydraulic system as well as the electrical systems present.
Day 2 was centered around the Yanmar engines and in particular the latest releases and Tier 4, followed by training on how to best use the screen monitors, for example daily maintenance operations and how to program interventions.
Alongside the training each attendee was given a copy of the Service Data Book which is the service bible when it comes to working on Yanmar machines. In fact Phil Humprey of A&Y said the use of the service book made working on the machines an easier task.
Overall it was a successful week with attendants from both courses commenting how much they'd picked up and felt more confident when it comes to working on Yanmar machines.
VICTAS or ViO Crawler Technology for Advanced Stability gives machines in the zero tail swing range improved stability and lifting strength, without the need for an expanding undercarriage.
It works by combining the following:
1. Enlarging the bearing surface through the track width.
Yanmar enlarge the tracks width in order to increase the ground bearing surface, this also lowers the machines centre of gravity. Thus remaining compact, stable and with strong lifting capacity.
The more conventional approach of simply adding a counterweight will drastically affect the compactness of the machines, especially on a zero tail swing model.
2. Enlarging the bearing surface thanks to the track shape.
Yanmar also use asymmetric or offset tracks, which pushes the bearing point further towards the outside of the machine (as shown in the image) The conventional more central bearing point makes the centre of gravity higher and the machine less stable when lifting.
Finally the pitches used in the tracks are shorter than many others. As the double flanged Yanmar rollers move over these pitches the operator will find that; crawler damage, vibration, noise and ground damage all are reduced.
Overall if you are looking for an excavator with increased lifting strength and stability, whilst still remaing compact and quiet then a Yanmar with patented VICTAS system is the one for you.
You will find it on the following models: ViO20, ViO25, ViO33, ViO38, ViO50, ViO57, ViO80, B7 Sigma and SV100.
You can see more on the zero tail swing range we offer by clicking the link HERE
As well as offering the full Yanmar construction and Ammann compaction ranges you will also find 3 models of Cormidi tracked carrier on offer at A&Y.
These tracked carriers, or dumpers or barrows as they are also know prove to be very popular in numerous work applications across the UK.
Feedback we have received on these machines has included; praise on its low ground pressure, especially when working in muddy conditions, strong climbing ability whilst not drastically losing speed, and how the Hi tip function has saved a few bad backs!
The 3 models we offer are the C50, C60 and C85. You can see some basic specs on each version below:
The smaller C50 and C60 are designed so that they can fit through a standard size door opening and go hand it hand when working with a mini excavator, the Yanmar SV08 for example.
You can also get a number of attachments to fit the C85, these include a loading shovel, dozer blade and cement mixer to name a few.
All 3 versions have four bottom rollers, with the middle two oscillating (or rocking) allowing the the tracks to ride over uneven surfaces whilst still keeping the load stable. The tracks are also angled, similar to a tanks, which make climbing a much easier task, even when using the rear operators platform which comes on the C60 and C85.
Each machine has fully hydrostatic drive, with all the RAMS and levers being fully protected.
We will have a Cormidi C50 joining us on the stand at Hillhead 2016, taking place at the end of June.

The Yanmar ViO17 is a compact and versatile mini excavator that proves to be well suited to fields such as; landscaping, grave digging and general urban jobsites, as well as being very popular across the UK and Ireland for hire companies.
Weighing just 1765kg, with an extendable undercarriage from 950mm to 1280mm its easy to see why Yanmar have stated they developed this machine with work in urban areas in mind. Of course this becomes even more clear when you consider that neither the counterweight nor the front part of the upper fame exceeds the width of the tracks. Making this machine a true zero tail swing digger and therefore able to work alongside a wall or narrow areas for example.
As with all of our Yanmar excavators and tracked carriers there are a number of important features that come as standard. A select few for the ViO17 are listed below:
We will be showing a ViO17 at the upcoming Hillhead show in the meantime if you would like further information including a product brochure then please contact us:

Earlier this week it was reported that so far this year rollers are proving to be the most stolen item of machinery.
In a review carried out by the AMI group it was found that rollers have risen as the most attractive piece of construction machinery for thieves.
AMI Group operations director Peter Stockton said: “The review we carried out revealed a marked increase in the theft of rollers from both construction sites and customer depots. This equipment tends to be smaller in size than much of the larger plant machinery so it is easier for criminals to conceal and transport in a panel van. Thieves may automatically presume that rollers don’t have a tracking device fitted so it is an easier option than larger kit which is more likely to have telematics fitted."
These findings were inline with recent reports by the Metropolitan Police's own Plant & Agricultural Intelligence Unit (PANIU) who found that smaller items such as tandem rollers, dumpers and mini excavators remain popular items for criminals and also unfortunately these thefts are on the rise.
Here at A&Y we can help combat these criminals, for example our Ammann Tandem rollers come complete with a lockable theft protection guard on the dashboard. In addition to this all of our machines are available with either anti-theft devices or trackers, a big deterrent to potential thieves.
