Recently you may have seen the above images being shared showing these excavators fitting through tight spaces and being easily transported. This is helped by their Yanmar expandable undercarriage, which once through the obstacle allows the machine to open up and give great stability during work.
Four models in our range of Yanmar excavators come with extendable undercarriage as standard. The machines with this feature are the semi zero tail swing SV08 and SV18 as well as the zero tail swing ViO12 and ViO17.
The operator can switch from the open frame configuration for increased stability, down to the closed frame to work in tight spots or reduced lanes. This will also aid machine access, for example the SV08 at 680mm wide will fit through a standard doorway.
The beauty of this feature is not just the added versatility it gives but the ease in which the adjustments can be made. An accessible lever controls the enlargement of the chassis with the blade extension being operated by folding the additional length out from the blade and pinning it in position. This function requires no tools and means that the parts stay attached to the machine at all times, reducing the likelihood of lost parts.
Yanmar have also reduced the clearance between the sliding undercarriage parts, thus meaning no build up of soil or mud during the extension and retraction.
The changes in machine widths of the excavators are as follows:
SV08 = 680mm - 840mm
ViO12 = 830mm - 1000mm
ViO17 = 950mm - 1280mm
SV18 = 980 - 1320mm
The below video shows in simple steps just how easy it is to expand and contract the undercarriage.
The ViO25 is Yanmar's zero tail swing excavator in the 2.5-3 tonne range. Combining compactness and performance this mini excavator enables you to work efficiently in various situations, from large open sites to tight urban areas.
Despite the width of the ViO25 being just 1450 mm there is no overhang at the rear, thus giving the operator the opportunity to; work alongside a wall, have clearer all around visibility, reduce obstruction whilst working on the road and transport the machine easier.
Just because the excavator is zero tail swing it doesn't mean the stability or lifting abilities are affected, thanks to Yanmar's patented VICTAS system. By utilising a unique off-set track configuration, which increases the footprint of the machine without increasing the overall width, VICTAS provides advanced stability. Alongside that benefit, a decrease in vibration, increase in lifting capacity and less ground damage are also achieved through this.
High productivity is very achievable in the ViO25, with a number of features to aid speed and quality of work.
The pedals for the 3rd circuit and boom swing are positioned on separate pedals to enable you to combine various working movements and travel. The second speed activation is also located on the floor, again allowing for functional control during travel. On the floor you will find the single action auxiliary circuit, controlled by a pedal. This is for the use of accessories such as a hydraulic breaker or auger.
Hydraulic circuit Load-Sensing, which utilises a variable flow piston pump enables precise and simultaneous working movements particularly for operations requiring accuracy like grading, is used on this model.
Further pluses of this machine are the standard Yanmar features such as; 3 year warranty, Yanmar's TNV engine, complete cylinder protection, ROPS FOPS TOPS cab, LED work light and easy access to maintenance parts to name but a few.

As the UK & Ireland distributor of Ammann's compaction machinery we sell a wide variety of compaction plates, forward moving, reversible and hydrostatic.
The reversible range of Ammann plate compactors are know as APR. All of these plates have a modern design, with a sturdy protection frame, integrated central lifting point and a choice of powerful petrol or diesel engines making this series of vibration plate very popular.
The APR 2220 plate represents the lightest unit in the reversible plate series, with an operating width of 40 cm and a forward speed of 25 meter/min.
This plate is particularly suitable for compaction work in narrow trenches and in confined areas. It's an extremely compact and handy unit with an operating weight of just below 100 kg (Honda petrol engine, 121kg Hatz engine.) Both versions reach a high maximum vibration frequency of 98 Hz and maximum centrifugal force of 22 kN. The light weight and narrow working widths make the machines perform well on confined jobsites.
This machine, like the larger APR 2620 and 3020 can have optional transport wheels attached. As well as wheels there is also the option of rubber mats, to avoid damage to paving stones.

This week we have sold two of our largest excavators, the 10 tonne SV100-2. Unlike other 10 tonne machines in the industry ours is a specifically made machine for this weight range, from the undercarriage up, ie not just an 8 tonne machine that's been given a boost!
The SV100-2 offers the performance of a large excavator, whilst still allowing the operator the benefits of a compact excavator. The breakout forces of 68.5 kN at the bucket and 45.8 kN at the boom are exceptional for a 10 tonne excavator with such a short tail swing (170mm to be precise!).
Added to that a dig depth of 4.64 metres and a dumping height of 5.3 metres allows the SV100-2 to carry out major work such as laying pipes or excavation and clearing operation in large areas quickly and efficiently.
In fact in our experience the Yanmar technology ensures excellent performance, combining; power, flexibility and precision. Its versatility makes it the ideal partner to improve productivity, regardless of the work site complexity you are facing.
There are many benefits to this machine, covering topics such as: performance, safety, reliability and comfort. Today we will highlight just 5 of these key features.
If you would like to hear more about the SV100-2 then please contact one of us today. Don't forget the SV100-2 also comes with an innovative 2 piece boom design the SV100-2pb, both of these models are available on our current finance plans, where you can have a brand new 10 tonne Yanmar excavator from just £210 per week!

Adjustable Proportional Control
The SV100-2 is equipped with two auxiliary circuits with joystick proportional control as standard. The adjustments are made via potentiometers. The proportional control adapts the flow of oil to the use and the needs of attachments and accessories.
Reduced Fuel Consumption
Eco mode, which effectively controls the motor speed, therefore allowing very low fuel consumption, is a standard feature. As is Auto idle, a function that reduces the engine speed when the levers are not used for 4 seconds. Both of these not only reduce fuel consumption but also reduce overall noise and emission levels.
The large and comfortable cabin is mounted on an innovative and sophisticated anti-vibration and noise reducing block. The sound level reaching the operator is significantly reduced and the five support points absorb even the smallest vibrations.
The rear and side covers are easy to open and give quick access to daily check points. The engine elements as well as hydraulic filter and the air filter are under the back cover. The right cover provides access to the radiator, battery, fuel tank and hydraulic filing points. Inside the cab, the panel beneath the seat and removable floor make it very easy to access the relays, fuses and components located under the cab.
Regulated Hydraulic System
The new electronic hydraulic pump regulator adjusts its flow rate based on engine performance. Thus engine power is perfectly exploited and machine performance optimised.
Introduced into the UK last week, the Ammann ATR 30 rammer is the lightest Ammann rammer on the market. With a weight of 29 kg it can be handled very easily, especially in trenches and on job sites where having an easily maneuvered rammer is an advantage.
The ATR 30 is powered by a small Honda GX35, 4 stroke petrol engine and comes with a standard 130mm wide foot. Two further shoe sizes of 100 mm and 200 mm are also available and switching only requires the removal of 4 screws.
Despite the size of the foot and weight of the rammer compaction results remain high.
This week we have been one of over 200 exhibitors at the 11th annual Executive Hire Show, once again held at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
The organisers are reporting that figures look like confirming 2017's show to be the most visited and we'd certainly second that at A&Y.
Our centrally located stand, showcasing some of the most popular Ammann, Yanmar and Cormidi products was a busy place.
Many of our dealers joined the A&Y team on the stand, spending time talking to current and prospective customers about the many benefits our machines offer the users and hirers.
The ViO12 gained a lot of attention during the show, with people keen to see the machine. It was also good to hear lots of positive feedback on the Cormidi tracked carriers, current users particularly like the fact that they are specifically built tracked dumpers and therefore have a well made undercarriage. Rather than just have the same undercarriage as a micro excavator.
The SV26 with AMB 150 breaker had much interest, with many comments about the spacious cab design, long arm as standard and ease of maintenance access. In fact during the show sales of Ammann forward moving plates, 1575 trench rollers were made as well as a Yanmar ViO17, SV08 and both Cormidi tracked dumpers.
All in all a very successful week and we look forward to exhibiting again next year.
The tracks are blacked, drums painted and windows cleaned - we're all set to welcome you to the Executive Hire Show 2017.
Once again this year we are located on stand B45 and will be showcasing a number of products from our Ammann, Yanmar and Cormidi ranges. In fact the full list of what we are exhibiting is as follows:
We look forward to welcoming you to our stand and showing what we have on offer, inlcuding two new products, the ViO12 and ATR30.
If you can't make it to the show then please don't hesitate to contact us for further details about any of our products.
It has been a very busy week here at A&Y. Everyday new machines have been arriving and going out, with the workshop constantly prepping new machines for their new homes.
It's not just us at HQ that have had a productive week, our dealers have also been securing new sales throughout the UK and Ireland.
The week started with our Kent based dealers, Co Plant selling an SV08 to a local customer. This 1 tonne micro excavator, with expandable tracks and an easy extendable blade is always a big seller.
A popular machine with hirers it will be on show at next weeks Executive Hire Show.
Dromad hire, one of the leading hire companies in Ireland also took delivery of two new SV08's for their fleet this week. Then yesterday we shared some great images from the guys at CP Hire, who had a delivery of 15 x SV08's!
At the other end of the size spectrum is the 8 tonne, ViO80. Mawsley machinery have been out demonstrating one to a potential customer. They were joined at the demo by A&Y's Service Manager, Jason Redgrave.
Jason talked the customer through the special features present on the ViO80 such as: electric refuelling pump, adjustable proportional control and the LCD screen read outs.
Hopefully we will bring you news of a sale soon!
It's not just Yanmar excavators that have sold this week. Joining a number of Rammax 1575 trench rollers going out of the door has been ARX tandem rollers.
A&Y Regional Sales manager, Richard Johnston sold both ARX rollers and vibration plates to local surfacing and construction companies. Then yesterday (Thursday) Mawsley Machinery confirmed the sales of 3 x ARX rollers.
A number of models mentioned will be on show at the Executive Hire Show next week.
